“What’s your Story?” Memoir on the Spiritual Path

April 20 @ 10:00 am 12:30 pm PDT

“The world needs more stories of devotees and their real-life struggles.”

Saturday, April 20, 10a to 12:30p. Ananda Community (apt#19). $25 (Circles of Giving discounts apply)

Rebecca Davis, Ph.D. returns to offer an inspiring, insightful and fun gathering for each of us to write our story: our adventure in spiritual awakening!

Have you ever felt an impulse to write about your experience?  While a memoir can’t help but involve the ego, sharing stories is an act of generosity, and it can have the added benefit of consolidating lessons and reinforcing moments of courage, inspiration, and higher guidance.

This half-day workshop offers a first step toward memoir by providing the opportunity to write about one key moment on your path.   We’ll start by looking at examples of how past saints and sages have written about their experiences, then do some silent reflection and brainstorming and sharing about our own paths and life-lessons. After that, we’ll do some freewriting, and finally, we’ll polish a portion of what we’ve written using some of the techniques professional writers use to make writing vivid and engaging. The workshop will take place at Bruce and Bekka’s in the community, where we can spread out and have tea and snacks handy.  Dress comfy, and bring your laptop or favorite pen and notebook.  The workshop could develop into a monthly writer’s support group, depending on what’s trying to happen.
