Question: How can I contact a deceased loved one?
Answer: Paramhansa Yogananda taught that to contact a deceased loved one we should be able to meditate very deeply, focusing at the spiritual eye until it appears to our inner sight. One must also be non-attached in your desire to contact this soul. Grief and attachment will prevent you from the deep calmness and concentrated required. Your intention should also be pure, without self-interest, and with deep love for the loved one. Your goal should be to offer comfort or in some way to help that soul. It is not uncommon for a departed loved one to appear in dreams and convey telepathically their comfort, happiness and safety.
But you might try this technique which Yogananda published in one of his early written lessons:
After you have learned to do this at will, you may practice the following exercise, at night: Lean against the back of a chair. Close your eyes and shift your gaze from the conscious level downward to the subconscious level and fall asleep. Then invoke the souls which have passed on, and meet them there in your consciously arranged reception-parlor of dreamland.
