Paramhansa Yogananda introduced the practice of “self-healing with prana (Life Force)” through a series of exercises that enable us to tap into the limitless source of cosmic energy and guide it where needed. The Life Therapy exercises you will practice include:

  • Energization Exercises: These include 39 exercises that will bring prana directly to cells, muscles, tissues, and organs.
  • Superconscious Living Exercises: a series of 6 simple exercises that elevate our mental outlook and activates greater awareness
  • Pranic techniques for self-healing include affirmations, breath control, visualization, chanting AUM, to name just a few. 
  • Heliotropic techniques: practices that combine prana with the power of solar rays
  • Meditation techniques that concentrate the powers of the mind and calm emotional disturbances

Paramhansa Yogananda said that the Energization Exercises are the foundation of raja yoga because “energy is the link between the body and the mind (consciousness).” Cosmic energy is limitless and Yogananda shows us how to access its power for the well-being of body, mind and spirit through these exercises.

Step 1 – Learn to do the Exercises correctly.

Over time, even experienced practitioners of the EE develop wrong habits. And for first-time students, learning them correctly from the beginning is essential.

You will learn: correct physical execution of the exercises, with particular attention to identifying and correcting any errors, helping each person with their own difficulties.

· Basic principles for the practice:
 “Tense with will”, Relax and feel.  
· How to direct the flow of energy
· Isolating specific parts of the body
· Guided practice with explanation

Step 2 – “The greater the will, the greater the flow of energy.”

After learning the correct movements and breathing, the second stage is to tune into and feel the flow of prana (Life Force) in the body and thus perceive cosmic energy within you.

Perception of energy (prana) during the Energization Exercises, will open up a new world of experience when practicing these exercises. In this class we will share a complete picture of the benefits of the EE and the importance of applying conscious will and developing an awareness of Life Force (energy).

o and one’s own spiritual evolution
This class will include guided practice and allow time for discussion.

Step 3 – “The Mouth of God: doorway to Cosmic Consciousness.

In this class, we go to the source or doorway of Life Force entering through the medulla oblongata at the base of the brain.

Our session will focus on the subtle art and science of drawing energy into the body AT WILL by awareness and concentration upon the mystic doorway, the Mouth of God, through which divine energy enters the body.

Our guided practice this time will become increasingly meditative and subtle, using what we have learned in the prior two classes to take the experience in the direction of pure will, pure energy, and pure feeling (devotion).

We will also show the connection between the exercises and specific chakras: additional doorways to particular attributes of energy and consciousness.

The Energization Exercises are an integral part of Ananda Yoga. You need to understand them deeply and be able to guide them precisely.

To qualify for this course, it is required to have learned and practiced the Energization Exercises daily for at least 3 months.

The energization exercises form a distinct and separate part of the science of yoga. Yet the principles underlying them can and should be incorporated into the practice of the yoga postures. As you practice the postures, especially those which stretch or tense the body, direct energy to the parts concerned.Swami Kriyananda
