Yoga, the World, and Be the Change!
A Current Events & “Know Thy Self” Forum (B)
2 Tuesdays, June 20 & 27, 7 to 8:30 p.m. $25

Those who are seeking through yoga, meditation, and activated high ideals to “Be the Change” sometimes get frustrated in accepting, understanding, and knowing what, if anything, is the right, personal response to world events, politics, crises, and the pressing issues of our time.

In this discussion group led by Jon Clark and Nayaswami Hriman McGilloway we will have two sessions to explore the “dharma” of right action and attitude from within and without. Balancing bringing our ideals into daily life we may address topics such as:

* Balancing seeking transcendence with our duty and dharma in the world
* How does the scriptural counsel of “When a higher duty conflicts with a lower duty, choose the higher” apply to our world and our lives
* Which is the higher road: compassion or justice? Liberal or conservative? More, or less, government? Security vs freedom?
* Why did Yogananda say he preferred the political party of Abraham Lincoln?
* The Bhagavad Gita says it is better to fail performing one’s own duty than to succeed fulfilling someone else’s? When does saving the world from its problems become an obstacle to spiritual growth?
* Does non-violence (ahimsa) mean being against all wars?
* Is there a spiritual perspective on how to combate terrorism?
* Are all religions the same? From the same and highest plane?
* Using Affirmations for personal guidance and transformation
* Should we stop reading the news?
* What if your side lost the presidential election? What should you do?
* What is the spiritual significance, if any, of the Middle East conflicts?
* Global warming: truth or fiction? Hot or cold, spiritually speaking.
