Ceelbrating Diwali: a Festival of Lights. Although sometimes described in India as a festival of lamps (and we will have lots of “lamps” lit at the Blue Lotus Temple on Sunday) it is much more than that! Diwali is a celebration of the soul’s victory over darkness and the joyous return to its eternal home in God.
We will begin with the lighting of the lamps to an ancient Upanishad a portion of which we read (in English) each Sunday in our own Festival of Light ceremony. Then comes a dance and song telling the story of the Churning of the Ocean of Milk: one of India’s most famous and beloved stories describing the struggle between the demons (darkness) and the devas (light). Some of our children will join our Indian dance and chant team to inspire us.
