Christianity & Yoga
May 12, 2026 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm PDT
3 Tuesdays: May 12, 19 & 26. In-person & online
We will explore:
· The core precepts of Christianity
· The core precepts of Yoga (“Sanatan Dharma”)
· Discovering Yoga in the Bible through stories
· Deeper & universal meaning behind Christian precepts
Paramhansa Yogananda came to the West naming his work “Self-realization” and describing his purpose to fulfill the Second Coming of Christ.
As Jesus attempted in the Sermon on the Mount to show his listeners that obedience to the precepts of right behavior have their source in the mind and heart, so Yogananda came to show how the science of meditation is the most effective means to “be still and know that I AM God.”
In the narrative of the gospels Jesus admitted that most people were not ready for his deeper teachings and that he gave those to close disciples. Yogananda has come to reveal those deeper teachings at a time when more souls have “ears to hear.”
Experience of the soul is more important than beliefs about metaphysical truths. Meditation, especially Kriya Yoga, offers the world the airplane route to inner experience of divine truths. Christ consciousness in the form of the guru comes to spark remembrance of the “truth that shall make us free.”
The ignition by that spark of the flame of one’s innate Christ consciousness constitutes its “second coming.” The guru is the torch bearer of truth but the truth lies hidden as Jesus said “within you.”
