Advanced Pranayama and Bandhas For Yoga Teachers, based on the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda and Swami Kriyananda

Paramhansa Yogananda explained that Pranayama is the control (yama) of life energy (prana) that governs the entire body and mind. When we withdraw the prana from its habitual outward flow and into the subtle meridians (nadis) of the spine, the mind becomes fit for concentration (Yoga Sutras 2:53). Pranayama can be done in a bottom-up way, through the body, via the practice of asanas; or they can be done directly thru the practices of regulating the breath in precise ways; or in a top-down way via an exercise of our will power, via a powerful technique known as Energization Exercises.

It is not an exaggeration to say that Pranayama is the central technique of yoga. Yoga of course is more than just technique – the techniques of yoga, when combined with devotion and the guidance of a guru, take us to the goal of yoga – which is Oneness.

In this 12 hour course, we focus on breath regulation techniques. This is an ancient and powerful part of Yoga. Swami Kriyananda teachers over ten such practices that help us to raise our consciousness by loosening the grip of the material body.
