It is said that God never gives us more than we can handle. Yet, the challenges in life can sometimes become overwhelming, to the extent that we begin to think that God is unfair, or that He doesn’t exist, or is impossible to attain, or that we are sinners who somehow deserve to suffer, or some other variation of this. Yogananda said that there is an active, conscious force that pulls us away from our inner power and makes us identify with our weaknesses. This force is referred to in the Bible as Satan and in the Yogic teachings as avidya or Ignorance. It is the satanic influence that prevents us from living in the moment and instead indulge in ride the waves of pleasure and pain that are an inevitable part of life – and in doing so, we subject ourselves to great suffering. The way out is both simple and profound: [Yogananda] to acknowledge defeat brings greater defeat. You have unlimited power; you must cultivate that power – that is all. How to cultivate this inner power that makes us immune to the trials and tribulations of life? Join Murali and Nayaswami Hriman this Sunday to find out.
