The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali are the playbook for the universal practice of meditation. It was written in the centuries before the birth of Jesus Christ by an enlightened sage, Patanjali, about whom we know very little. The Eight-Fold Path from the Sutras is the step-by-step ladder of practice and realization. Patanjali codified revealed wisdom from ancient times in the Sutras for what is surely the unfolding awareness of modern times.
Divided into four chapters, the Sutras are highly condensed as if written in a “zip” file whose contents require extraction.
Most of the practical meditation counsel is contained in the first two books. Our text is “Demystifying Patanjali” by Swami Kriyananda. Text is not required but recommended and can be obtained at Ananda in Bothell, from the publisher CrystalClarity.com or anywhere good books are sold.
* What is the nature of the state of meditation?
* What are the obstacles to this state?
* How can we know what is true?
* Stages of practice based on the Eight-Fold Path
* What should we meditate upon?
* Is there a higher Being? If so, who? what?
* and much more.
Nayaswami Hriman will present this four-week class series. It is designed for both experienced and new students of meditation and yoga philosophy.
