The classical asanas of Hatha Yoga, practiced with proper alignment to achieve all physical benefits, are accompanied by specific affirmations designed to stimulate self-awareness and its natural qualities. The body has the ability to express the beauty of our soul. Prana, or life energy, is consciously directed to move “inward and upward.”

Ananda Yoga is a physically sustainable practice for everyone. It provides a tool for spiritual growth by releasing unnecessary tensions. In the 1960s, Swami Kriyananda developed Ananda Yoga as a unique style after an intensive period of training under Guru Paramahansa Yogananda (author of Autobiography of a Yogi).
“One of the most distinctive aspects of this system is the use of silent affirmations during postures.” These affirmations are designed to deepen and enhance the subtle benefits of each asana, offering a method to align the body, energy, and mind.
In a typical class, Vahini or Judy will guide you through a sequence of gentle Hatha Yoga poses aimed at directing energy to the brain and preparing the body for meditation. Lessons focus on proper alignment, transitions between poses, and breathing exercises (pranayama), facilitating the exploration of yoga’s inner dimensions and self-awareness.
