Movement as Meditation

“Yoga is an art as well as a science. It is a science, because it offers practical methods for controlling body and mind, thereby making deep meditation possible. And it is an art, for unless it is practiced intuitively and sensitively it will yield only superficial results.” – Paramhansa Yogananda.

In this 3-hour retreat, suitable for new or more experienced yoga students, we’ll explore how the art and science of yoga can create a deep meditative experience.  The science of yoga gives us proven techniques to awaken the energy and concentration necessary for success, and the art reveals our own personal expression of meditation through uplifted feelings of expansion and inner knowing.

We begin by cultivating awareness in every physical movement, noticing the quality of energy that arises in each posture.  We start to develop concentration, experiencing the energetic effects of moving the breath in pranayama.  Chanting takes us inward, letting go of sensations, cultivating movement in the heart’s feelings.  And then, our intuition leads us naturally upwards into peaceful integration of body, mind and Spirit.

Presented by Lynne Steele with a team of Ananda Yoga teachers.
