Concentration and the Cure for Nervousness! (Zoom) Inspired by the original writings of Paramhansa Yogananda
Nervousness is such a common condition (and even more so in these uncertain times) that we have many words for it: anxious, edgy, tense, jumpy, apprehensive, worried, etc. Nervousness interferes with every aspect of our lives. It is hard to work efficiently, to heal from a disease, to meditate deeply, or even have a sense of perspective when we are nervous.
We always associate nervousness with an external circumstance: “I am nervous because…[job uncertainty, possible disease, public speaking, etc.]”. Yoga however teaches us that nervousness is a result of long-standing mental habits and, by taking steps to change these habits, our tendency to being nervous can be overcome. Surprisingly, one of the key techniques to overcome nervousness is to develop concentration.
In this short experiential class, we will discuss the causes of nervousness, and explore simple yogic techniques of concentration: simple physical exercises, breathing practices, visualization, and more, which help us to change the consciousness of nervousness and rise up to meet the challenges of life.
