With music, chants and inspiration shared by Ananda members we will celebrate the birth of Paramhansa Yogananda in India on January 5, 1893.
Each year on January 5 we celebrate the birth of Paramhansa Yogananda-the avatar of Dwapara Yuga (Age of Energy). Swami Yogananda came to America in 1920 and except for a visit to India in 1935-36 took up residence in Los Angeles CA and became an American citizen.
Trained and commissioned by a line of avatars beginning with Jesus Christ and Mahavatar Babaji, Yogananda-ji brought the pure essence of the Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras to the world. He lectured before thousands throughout America in the 1920’s and 1930’s. “I did not come to Indianize you but to convert you to your own highest Self. The time for knowing God HAS COME!”
Yogananda brought the ancient but newly refined practices of Raja Yoga whose essence is the technique of Kriya Yoga meditation. A new dispensation of spiritual teaching and vibration has been brought to the world to lift us beyond sectarianism, dogmas and rituals into the inner kingdom that alone leads to Self-realization: oneness with the Father. Yogananda’s insights into the teachings of Jesus are so profound that he felt inspired to term his work “The Second Coming of Christ.”
