Having an active lifestyle is essential to physical and mental health. However, the rigors of an active lifestyle can result in aches, pains, and injuries. These can be small irritants like a twinge in the knee while hiking down the hill; or they can be more serious conditions such as chronic knee pain, over-tight muscles, shin splints etc. Often these conditions can be prevented by complementing your activity by appropriate range of motion (ROM) exercises to release stress in the muscles and joints.
In this workshop, we explore the science of flexibility, including reflexes, facilitated stretching etc. We then apply these concepts to our body via a series of warm-ups and asanas designed to release muscular tension. A great yoga teacher used to say: “The body is not rigid; the mind is. We tune into the important concept of mental flexibility by inviting the body to go a little bit beyond what it is used to doing.
The Yogasana Intensives are a series of 9 workshops designed to explore the physical, astral, and causal aspects of yoga postures. Designed for all levels and for students considering Yoga Teacher Training, each workshop picks up the thread of Hatha Yoga from a specific topic and typically consists of:
- A brief discussion of the topic
- An asana and pranayama routine, designed specifically to explore the topic with our bodies
- A meditation session
At the end of each workshop, we will provide a suggested Yoga routine which you can practice at home to continue your exploration.
