 Kriya Yoga Preparation Intensive: Segment 2 (Study & Practice) - taught by Ananda Lightbearer-ministry staff

Wednesdays, June 4 – November 19, 2014, 6:00 – 9:00 pm 

Segment 2 of the Kriya Yoga training process is for those who have completed the raja segment of the Raja Yoga Intensive, AND, Segment 1 of the Kriya Yoga Preparation. Segment 2 begins with discipleship initiation to Paramhansa Yogananda and the Self-realization line of gurus.

After taking discipleship initiation, you will be taught two key techniques: the Aum Technique of meditation and the Maha Mudra spine-energizing posture-technique.

Then, for the rest of the sub-classes in this Segment you will have the opportunity to practice the four core techniques which are practiced as part of and learned before receiving kriya yoga. These four core techniques are the Energization Exercises, the Hong Sau meditation technique, the Aum meditation technique and the Maha Mudra spine-energizing mudra.

In addition to practicing these techniques each week you will study the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda using four essential textbooks. 

  • Autobiography of a Yogi: study one of the most famous and life changing works of modern times.
  • The New Path: learn about life with a God-realized master in the 20th century
  • Essence of Self-Realization: what are the core precepts of Saanatan Dharma: reincarnation, karma, meditation, guru, disciple and much more
  • Conversations with Yogananda: meet the real Yogananda through fascinated, humorous, and profound conversations Yogananda had with Swami Kriyananda

For the convenience of students, these books are available for sale at the Ananda Meditation Temple in Bothell.

Deepen Your Meditation

In Seattle & Bothell, 7:30 – 9 pm

This class is designed for those who have completed the Learn to Meditate class (3-part series or Saturday workshop).  We will review our meditation practices together and explore how meditation can transform your life and be an integral part of your spiritual path. Topics will vary according to students’ interest but may include how to use chanting or mantra, what is the 8-Fold Path described by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras, reincarnation, the importance of devotion, what is raja yoga and kriya yoga and more information about Ananda.  Prerequisite: Learn to Meditate.  The Deepen Your Meditation class will generally follow on the Monday or Tuesday following the Learn to Meditate 3-class series.

July 31 – Health & Healing through Acupuncture – Melissa Yaden and Amy Morrison, both local practitioners of acupuncture will present a dynamic and practical evening on the uses of acupuncture. The session will include “hands-on” demonstrations!

 

Aug 7 – Healing Yourself and Others through Life Force. Christy Johnston, coordinator for Ananda’s Healing Ministry, offers an experiential workshop on Life Force awareness and control for health and healing. Using tension exercise and other yogic practices, learn how to awaken energy at will and to direct it as part of your health and healing treatments for oneself or others at a distance.

Saturday night meditation begins with a short period of chanting, followed by silent meditation until a chanting break at 8 pm. Silent meditation continues then until shortly before 9 pm, when the meditation closes with healing prayers. You are welcome to join us for all or part of this time. Please enter and exit the sanctuary quietly, preferably during chanting periods.

The Purification Ceremony is an opportunity for you to individually pray for purification and invoke God’s grace and power through the masters.  Instructions are available in the foyer or in the sanctuary.

Silent Meditation, 9:15 – 9:45 am

The silent meditation period begins with a chant at 9:15 (chant books with words are available). Just before the close of meditation at 9:45, the minister will lead us in offering healing prayers.
