Path of Raja Yoga @ East West Bookshop
Aug 31 @ 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Hriman150x150The term “raja” means “royal.” The royal, 8-Fold path taught by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras is a reference not only to meditation but to the subtle, astral spine: “highway to the infinite.” But this 8-fold practice is not a rejection of our daily life: it embraces all life from our hidden center within.
Tonight Nayaswami Hriman McGilloway, teacher of the Raja Yoga Intensive for over twenty years, will explain, share, and give a taste of the meditation techniques we use in the Raja Intensive course that begins Tuesday, September 8.
Included tonight will be:
* 8 stages in the evolution of consciousness
* Value of creative visualization
* Purpose of mantra and chanting
* Importance of will power
* What is “attunement?”
* Chakras: doorways to the “karmic matrix”
* Cosmology, karma, reincarnation
* Role of gurus, avatars & teachers

Path of Kriya Yoga @ East West Bookshop
Sep 1 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

Presented by Hriman & Padma McGilloway

Tuesday, September 1, 7 to 8 p.m. – East West Bookshop
Thursday, September 3, 7 to 8 p.m. – Ananda Temple (Bothell)

What is this “Kriya Yoga” that one hears so much about? Is it a meditation technique or is it something more? How does it work and why would I want to undergo the training in preparation for learning it? What commitment, if any, is required of me? What will I learn during the training and how will kriya yoga benefit my life?

Kriya Yoga was brought to the West and made internationally famous by Paramhansa Yogananda’s life story, “Autobiography of a Yogi.” Kriya Yoga is both a meditation technique and a complete spiritual path to soul liberation in which one accepts Paramhansa Yogananda and the line of preceptors that sent him as one’s spiritual guides. As is the tradition from ancient times, a period of training and preparation (9 to 12 months) is necessary to prepare the body, mind and heart to receive and benefit from such an advanced technique and begin one’s journey to Self-realization on a true and life-changing spiritual path.

In this class you will learn:
The history of kriya yoga
How the kriya technique accelerates working out of karma
How the four core techniques of the kriya path work together
The importance and role of a disciple and of the guru
Why breath control leads to energy control
The importance of the astral body and chakras for enlightement
The eight stages of spiritual awakening taught in the Yoga Sutras
The secret behind the science of astrology
What classes are part of the training course for kriya yoga

These two free classes are offered so that can help you decide whether you want to take some first steps toward kriya yoga.

Though the event is free, we invite you to register and let us know you are coming.

Price: $0.00

Sunday Service, 10 a.m. in Bothell

Sundays at Ananda Meditation Temple are the highlight of the week and are an excellent occasion for your first visit. Sunday Service is drawn from the ancient meditation tradition of the East and the mystical traditions of Christ, with scriptural readings from both the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita. Service includes music, chanting, a brief period of meditation, inspirational talk, and a beautiful ceremony called A Festival of Light.

Paramhansa Yogananda, author of  Autobiography of a Yogi and guru-preceptor for the work of Ananda, encouraged respect for all religions and all forms of sincere worship, service, and meditation. His own line of guru-preceptors include Jesus Christ, Babaji (formerly Krishna), Lahiri Mahasaya, and Swami Sri Yukteswar. Therefore we show particular respect and reverence to Yogananda and these illumined souls who sent him to the West. But our devotion is essentially and always, as he taught us, to God alone, and to the manifest divinity in those whom God sends to earth in human form to teach and uplift others.

At Ananda, each person who comes and participates does so with his or her own, inner realization and recognition. No one form of reverence, belief, or personal relationship to God or the gurus is expected or assumed. All are welcome to the weekly services and meditations. The only suggestion we make is to come with an open heart and an open mind.
