Sacred Secrets of Hinduism and the Lineage of Yoga @ Ananda Meditation Temple
Jul 28 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Taught by Murali Venkatrao

3 Thursdays, 7:30 to 9 p.m., July 21, 28, and Aug 4. $40. Optional text: Hindu Way by Swami Kriyananda.

To most of us, Hinduism and the esoteric practices of yoga are impossibly complex, mysterious, and wrapped in unfamiliar symbolism and characterized by strange rituals and disciplines. Are these things “idol worship” as condemned by the Bible? Are some of the practices “of the devil” or, at best, dangerous?

Based on his own research and the enlightening text, “The Hindu Way,” by Ananda’s founder, Swami Kriyananda, Murali Venkatrao, born and raised in the Vedic traditions of Brahminism. will bring to us

* illuminating stories from the Puranas of India
* a summary of the history and lineages of yoga
* the core revelations and precepts of Hinduism
* the keys to unlock the meaning of common symbols of Hindu deities
* an explanation of the interrelationship of India’s greatest scriptures: the Vedas, Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and Yoga Sutras
* background on key figures such as Shiva, Vishnu, Kali, Krishna and Hanuman.

Murali is a distinguished teacher of the precepts of Self-Realization, of Ananda Yoga, Raja Yoga and the Director of the Yoga Teacher Training for the Institute of Living Yoga.

Specific topics include:

· Who is the founder of Hinduism?

· What is Sanaatan Dharma?

· What are the sources of Yoga and what is its lineage?

· What is the equivalent of Father, Son and Holy Ghost on the Yogic Path?

· Symbolism of the Bhagavad Gita

· Yuga cycle

Sunday Service, 10 a.m. in Bothell

Sundays at Ananda Meditation Temple are the highlight of the week and are an excellent occasion for your first visit. Sunday Service is drawn from the ancient meditation tradition of the East and the mystical traditions of Christ, with scriptural readings from both the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita. Service includes music, chanting, a brief period of meditation, inspirational talk, and a beautiful ceremony called A Festival of Light.

Paramhansa Yogananda, author of  Autobiography of a Yogi and guru-preceptor for the work of Ananda, encouraged respect for all religions and all forms of sincere worship, service, and meditation. His own line of guru-preceptors include Jesus Christ, Babaji (formerly Krishna), Lahiri Mahasaya, and Swami Sri Yukteswar. Therefore we show particular respect and reverence to Yogananda and these illumined souls who sent him to the West. But our devotion is essentially and always, as he taught us, to God alone, and to the manifest divinity in those whom God sends to earth in human form to teach and uplift others.

At Ananda, each person who comes and participates does so with his or her own, inner realization and recognition. No one form of reverence, belief, or personal relationship to God or the gurus is expected or assumed. All are welcome to the weekly services and meditations. The only suggestion we make is to come with an open heart and an open mind.
